Revolution 2012
Written by Luke Hudson
Hey everyone! Just got back from the TWR-PRO Revolution show. Thought I'd chime in with some of my thoughts. Firstly, the show was at the Dookie War Memorial Auditorium downtown. Parking sucked, but the building was much bigger than the Daniel Rexputty Gym, from what I could see on iPPV anyways. I got to the arena with a little time to spare so that I could check out the merch. The most prominently featured shirt was Jason Massey's "ARRIVE.PUNCH.LEAVE" shirt. I'm a fan, so I bought one. Then it was off to my seat.
The auditorium was packed. I'm thinking around 2,000 people in attendance. The show was late to start, and the crowd starting getting a little restless. I overheard the ref and the announcer say that some guy named Jerseypunk was late. Soon after, the show begun with Lyle Hagan (sp?) vs Jerseypunk.
Lyle Hagan vs Jerseypunk
MAJOR heat for Jerseypunk. Everyone wanted to see Hagan decapitate this douche. We were all surprised to see him get in as much offense as he did, and he was actually a pretty good wrestler. But at this point, no one cared. It's tough to cheer for a guy with South Park pajama bottoms on. Hagan picked up the win. Hagan didn't look extraordinary, but he was good. Reminds me of Claudio Castagnoli. After the match, Jerseybitch started cutting a promo on two hot chicks in the front row. His promo was drowned out with boos. Security had to escort him out of the building, 1) because of his heat and 2) because he went on to long and they had to continue the show.
Next up was Zeus Bente vs Justin Massey. Not a strong reaction for either guy, but their trying to find their spots on the card. Justin Massey has an interesting offense. He really worked Zeus' legs. Zeus is a beast of a man, and intimidating in person. There were some nice spots, especially the one where Zeus went for the spear in the corner, but Justin moved. Justin played the smart heel in this one and it got Zeus some sympathy, but not a whole lot. Zeus won with the Twist of Fate, which is odd to see such a big guy do. Good match, but the crowd just wasn't feeling it.
After that, it was the sponsors match. I really like the sponsor idea and was eager to see it in action. I think it worked great tonight. This was easily the longest match on the card. It went over 40 minutes, but it was great the whole way through. There were a couple of times that we all though Todd Mabe had Shane Matthews ready to tap, but it never happened. Mark Ventrice got a good face reaction, which is interesting considering how much a dick Shane Matthews is. Brian Damage got a mixed reaction, and I don't think the match helped him define his character, though he did do well and almost had the win a couple times there. Ventrice picked up the win after 2 Super Kicks and I think it'll do a lot for him going forward.
After that, it was time for intermission, and thank god! That match drained everyone in the arena. I went to use the bathroom, and someone was hurling in one of the stalls. You could see their legs under the stall doors, and sure enough, South Park pajama bottoms. What a lameass. After that, I went to go check out some more merch. They had the Tournament to Crown a Champion DVD for sale, and Jules Fontaine was autographing them for an extra $5. His Spiral Bomb is epic, so I had to lay my money down. After that, it was back to my seat for the 2nd half of the show.
Next up was the match I was looking forward to the most. Geno Brooks vs Brian "Cookie" Cook. I'm not a fan of Cooks super-face style, but the majority of the crowd ate it up. AMAZING match. These two are two-for-two in stealing the show for me. Their styles gel really well. I'm not going to disgrace this match by trying to explain it, go see it for yourself. NOW! Cookie got the win with the Cookie Cutter, evening their win/loss total to 1-1. Cookie cut some promo after the match about the fans, but then he tried to go back into the ring and fight Geno some more, which I popped for. Maybe Cookie's not so bad after all.
Dan Phelps came out after they cleaned up the Geno/Cookie mess and got instant heat. Now, I understand that there was a pre-recorded promo that played prior to the event on iPPV? Yeah, well, none of us in the crowd got to see it, so when Phelps said that he had Todd Mabe's services, that got a loud chorus of boos. I think a lot of people were really pulling for him in that sponsor match. Then even more boos came when he announced that he's not even a wrestler. What a pussy. Anyway, some big douche came out named "Scotty" and entered the match as Phelps replacement.
After that, the match got underway. Lexicon looked out of place in this match. It looked like he was a fly buzzing around Jason and Scotty. He was definitely the most technically skilled though. Even though he looked like a douche, Scotty looked impressive. Jason was struggling to fight both men off, but he had some dominating moments, too. There was a spot where Jason tossed Scotty to the outside, Atomic style. That got an "oh shit!" pop. Everyone was shocked to see Lexicon make Jason tap, and a round of boos filled the auditorium. After that though, everyone was pulling for Lexicon over Scotty. Lex soon made Scotty tap, too, so it looks like Lex vs Jules Fontaine for the next event.
A good match, if not a little cluttered by the Triple Threat rules. I think most people felt good about Lex winning, so long as it wasn't Scotty, though Jason was clearly the favorite. Phelps yelled at Scotty for a bit as Lexicon celebrated. And that was the show. Overall, a very good show with quality wrestling. The announcer said that the next event would be a royal rumble type event and that tickets were available at the door. Good to hear that they're mixing it up from event to event. Definitely recommend buying the DVD when it comes out. Lots of entertaining stuff on the show.
Now, I'm off to masturbate to pics of Mickie James. Peace.
