Shot opens of a small room, dimly lit but tidy. In the middle of the room is a long table. Sitting at the table are Dan Phelps and a man who appears to be a legal representative. The men are dressed in expensive suits and ties, and are sans the TWR-PRO World Championship. After a moment of waiting, Paul Jordan and another gentlemen walk into the room and sit at the opposite end of the table.
Paul Jordan: Dan, this is...
Dan Phleps interrupts Paul to correct his informality
Dan Phelps: First off Paul, when you address me, it will be as either Mr. Phelps or Sir. Actually, on second thought, please only address my lawyer, Mr. Reiser from this point on. I will speak only if I deem it necessary.
The look of frustration on Paul Jordan's becomes instantaneously noticeable.
Dan Phelps: I would like to remind you what we are here for Paul.
Paul Jordan: Fine. Mr. Reiser, this is Mr. Augustus Rothstein.
Paul Jordan points to the man next him
Paul Jordan: He represents TWR-PRO in all legal matters.
Rothstein opens his folder and puts on his reading glasses
Augustus Rothstein: This shouldn't take us long. Pretty cut-and-dry case. In accordance with the law, Mr. Dan Phelps must return the TWR-PRO Championship betl to either Mr. Paul Jordan or Mr. Jules Fontaine 7 days from this date. If Mr. Phelps fails to comply with this court order, a warant will go out for Mr. Phelps arrest and the title will be taken as evidence.
Dan smirks before leaning in to say something to his lawyer. Mr. Reiser pops open his briefcase and pulls out a paper of his own, placing it on the table in front of Augustus.
Mr. Reiser: This is a document posted by your client asking for people to simply sign up to be a part of the tournament that took place the night in question. As you can see, Mr. Phelps is the first name on that list. Now, while this document is signed by my client, your client's name is no where to be found due to the fact that Mr. Jordan was trying to keep his identity a secret. Now while I don't know the reason behind this, I think a judge may have something to say about it. Perhaps Mr. Jordan wanted to discriminate behind the proverbial "double-sided mirror" of anonymity. Regardless of reason, Mr. Phelps' name was first, therefore his exclusion from the tournament was discrimination. If he is arrested, he will have no choice but to sue TWR pro.
Paul Jordan's face starts to turn red as his once big smile has transformed into a tight-lipped frown
Paul Jordan: That's bullshit! I had the right to deny anyone into the tournament that I wanted to!
Augustus picks up the document that Mr. Reiser laid out on the table. After reading over it carefully, Mr. Rothstein leans over to Paul and whispers in his ear. Paul gets a discourage look on his face and starts to frantically whisper back. The two go back and forth for what seems like hours. Dan stands, interrupting the whispers.
Dan Phelps: Paul, we can go back and forth like this for months, years even. You have me arrested, I press charges against you, you fire back, appeals. You see Pauly, I have all the time in the world. I have plenty of money, plenty of lawyers and way too much pride. So how about we just try to settle this right here?
Paul Jordan finally looks at Dan.
Paul Jordan: Ok, what is it that Mr. Phelps wants?
Dan looks at Mr. Reiser, grinning.
Mr. Reiser: Dan wants a shot at the title at your next event, I believe it is called Revolution.
Paul begins shaking his head furiously.
Paul Jordan: NO WAY! NO GOD DAMN WAY! I'm not going to award someone who just committed a crime a title shot! What kind of message does that send to the rest of the roster?! Look, I want the title back, and under these new-found circumstances, I'm willing to work out a deal, but giving you a title shot... that's out of the question.
Dan returns to his seat, smiling at the now shaken Paul Jordan.
Dan Phelps: Pauly, I am not the only one that has committed a crime here, remember that. Now, instead of yelling and accusations, how about a counter offer?
Paul Jordan glares at Dan Phelps for a few seconds, then turns to his lawyer and the whispers begin again.
Paul Jordan: Mr. Reiser, how about this, I won't fire your client's ass! He returns the belt and we go about business like nothing ever happened.
Paul tries his best to hold in his anger.
Paul Jordan:....Alright. ALRIGHT! I won't give you a title match. However...
Paul looks at Augustus and Augustus nods.
Paul Jordan: You can have an OPPORTUNITY to earn a title match. If you return the championship to me by noon tomorrow, I will add you to the main event of Revolution, making it Lexicon vs Jason Massey vs...
Paul snarls with disgust
Paul Jordan: Dan Phelps.
Dan looks over at Mr. Reiser and nods before addressing Paul Jordan.
Dan Phelps: That is acceptable, but I have two conditions. Number one, I will not return the belt to you, I will return it to it's rightful owner Jules Fontaine. Pauly, this isn't yours, it belongs to Jules now, and he was unfortunately caught in the crossfire here, so I want to give it to him myself as a sign of goodwill.
Paul Jordan: Fine. But if that title has so much as a scratch on it, I'll have you on fast track out of this promotion! What's the second condition?
Dan Phelps: Speaking of scratches, I don't trust you Pauly, and I wouldn't put it past you to get some goon to take me out before the match so you get your match the way you wanted it. So, if for whatever reason I can't compete in the match, I get to choose my replacement. There will be no funny business here.
Paul looks puzzled. Paul then turns to Augustus.
Paul Jordan: I can't believe the guy COMMITTED THIEVERY is worried about me being shifty... You know what, I can't stand being in this room any long with Mr. Phelps. Augustus, stay here with Mr. Reiser until you two get all the fine print hashed out. If you'll excuse me, I have to go inform two mean son of a bitches that they've got a third wheel joining their party.
Paul leaves the room, visibly upset and holding back his anger. Dan stands up smiling and begins packing his briefcase.
Mr. Reiser: We will take that as a yes, now before we leave, my client was never paid for his services during the last event....
Paul Jordan: Dan, this is...
